Christmas Surfer Gift Ideas.
Christmas Gift Ideas for Surfers
Finding a Christmas present or gift for that special surfer in your life can be a nightmare.
If you are struggling to find the right Christmas gift for your surfer wife, husband, partner or surfing kids then let us guide you through the different Christmas gifts available this Christmas.
First of all, do they have everything they need to catch those waves?
If not then maybe it’s time for a new surfboard, or a nice cosy wetsuit or even a vest that goes under your wetsuit providing warmth and protection against rashes.
If they do have all the equipment then some really cool Christmas gifts include surfer’s books, surfing DVD’s, surf fitness aids, sunglasses and luggage for surf travel.
If the above doesn’t not cut the mustard, then why not kit them out in the latest Errant Surf clothing, Fox Racing Clothing or Rapanui Clothing.
Or, if you think it might be better to leave the decision to them, why not a surf specific gift-voucher for this Christmas?
Failing that a pair of knitted socks and a new tie

Amazing what can be pulled together in one morning.
Sat at the Errant office last week rumour’s started flying around about a thumping North Sea swell due to hit the next day along the entire length of the North East of England.
We glanced out of the office towards Watergate, only to be greeted by a lame small swell, which was forecasted to stay that way all weekend. That was enough inspiration to load up the truck and drive.
Work was ditched, girlfriends left and plans for mission “Barry Island” put on hold. Driving for hours and crossing multiple counties we scored some of the best waves in England. Camping at the bottom of fields, getting up at first light and surfing until dark.
Errant riders Tom Butler, Mitch Corbett and Josh Hughes surfed hard every waking moment of the day. It’s going to be a big winter for the team, as they prepare for their next two month exploration trip in even colder, heavier waters.
Errant Exploration Team – "Barry Island" is on!
Errant in association with Quiver surfboards have gathered some of the UK’s top surfers to build a long awaited “exploration team” which will travel the globe in search of slabs and tow waves in some of the world’s most remote corners.
The surfers on the team include, Mark Harris, Tom Butler (2nd UKPST 2009), Josh Hughes and Mitch Corbett.
Documenting the new discoveries will be Timmy Boydell from TR7 Productions and Will Bailey top Carve surf magazine photographer.
The team are going to be spending two months, on remote islands just south of Iceland, looking for new waves.
Chris Thomson MD for Errant commented “After a quick pub meeting it was decided we would all spend the dark months in a stupidly remote island chain where most islands are uninhabited. I have never seen grown man so excited about such a prospect.” Chris continues “For Errant this team will spear head new wave exploration, something Errant stands for; to wander in search of adventure, instead of following others, and the common path. Bring it on!”
The code named “Barry Island” project kicks off in October, so stay tuned for the latest video blog from the UK’s top surfers in new, cold water, heavy waves.
Paddle-bury
We packed up the van and drove eight hours east, leaving our home in Newquay, Cornwall. Our destination was the ever popular Paddle round the Pier in Brighton south England.
What started as a bunch of mates racing their surfboards around the pier in Brighton has now turned into one of the biggest free beach festival’s in Europe. An estimated 40,000 people passed through the “village” this weekend. Everyone donated £1 to enter to come watch live bands, laugh at the “paddle anything” race and check out companies from all areas of the board sport and water sports world.
Pitch 36 became our home for the weekend, where we showed off our surfing holidays and our latest Errant Threads which will be launched officially when our new surf store goes live in the coming weeks.
A big thank you to Pete and Jack @ Ground Swell and David @ a1surf.com for helping tackle the gazebo!
Can’t wait for next year!
Best time to go surfing.
Every time England plays, I go surfing.
Yesterday was no exception. Perfect head high surf, little winds and stunning sunshine. You would expect Fistral to be packed. Luckily England was playing Slovenia. While Capello’s boys were busy chasing balls, I was busy chasing the set waves.
Surfing could not be any further from football in terms of pursuits. Football is a team game, full of money (debt), fixed borders, fixed time frame, rules and regulations.
Surfing is an individual endeavour, no borders, no time frame and the only rule is not to drop in.
I good friend of mine James pulled together a “I bet I can find 1,000,000 people who prefer to surf then play football” facebook group. Its only been up online for a month or so, and it has just under 65,000 followers. Nice.
So Sunday is around the corner, England V Germany. Surf’s looking good again. Shame its only 90 minutes long.
Meet Ian Walsh

Better known for their strong presence in motorcross, Fox has been busting on the surf scene over the last few years. Sponsoring big names such as Ian Walsh from Paia in Hawaii. The 27 year old surfer is technically sound and capable of sick airs – he’ll tear up waves from 2 to 70 feet. Best known for his legendary big wave exploits at Jaws and Teahupo’o, Ian is also a seasoned competitor on the QS and CT tours.
We catch up with Ian in Hawaii to find out what makes him tick, Fox style.
Few people get to experience the world the way surfer Ian Walsh does, grabbing flights at a moment’s notice to chase the best waves all over the globe. He’s had to develop some flexibility (to say the least) over the years, not knowing from one day to the next where he might find himself, so who better to get a few travel tips from? We checked in with him on a recent layover to get some advice and a glimpse into what it’s like to fly as much as he does.
